Tamdi Bajje ( Red Amaranths Leaves) Sanna muddo

This is one of favorite side dish of  konkanis. We call it by two other names Sanna khotto ( when steamed in Jack fruit tree leaves ) Sanna muddo ( Steamed in Banana leaf ) and sannan.

Bajje-sanna-muddo

Ingredients :  

Raw Rice – 250 gms

Coconut – 1

12 – 15 Red Chilies

Tamarind – 1 goose berry size

Red Amaranths leaves -2 cups (chopped )

Salt to taste

coconut oil

Method :

  1. Grind Coconut grating,Red chilies, and Tamarind
  2. Now add soaked and drained rice. Grind to coarse powder, If you want sprinkle little water while grinding.
  3. Add chopped Amaranths leaves and salt mix well
  4. Steam in Steamer in greased  banana leaf for 20 -25 minutes.
  5. Serve hot with some Coconut oil drizzled on them

variations :Instead of amaranths one can use Cabbage and onion,Methi leaves, Drum stick leaves ,Colcasia leaves .

Note : Do not make batter fine or watery or else Muddo will turn sticky.
