Vaduka Puli Naranga Curry (Wild Lemon Pickle )

This is  the traditional pickle of Kerala Sadya  during Onam

Ingredients :

  1. Wild lemon -1
  2. Green chillies – 4-5 ( cut in to small round pieces )
  3. Garlic -10-12 pods.
  4. Chillies powder -4-5 tsp.
  5. Fenugreek -1/2 tsp.(crushed to powder ).
  6. Asafoetida -1/2 tsp.
  7. Curry leaves -2 springs.
  8. Salt to taste.
  9. Mustard – 1/2 tsp.
  10. Gingilly oil -1-2

Method :

  1. Boil  whole lemon in one cup of water for 2 to 3 minutes.
  2. Take it out of the water and cut into small cubes when it cools.Keep the water aside for gravy.
  3. Heat oil in Pan. Then add mustard. When it splutters add garlic and saute it for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Now add lemon pieces, green chillies and curry leaves. Stir for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add water and bring it to boil. Now add chilli powder, asafoetida and salt. Stir well and boil for a few more minutes till gravy thickens .
  6. Cool down and store in a clean and dry bottle.
  7. You can use it right away.
  8. It can be kept for 2 – 3 weeks in a refrigerator.
