This is the traditional pickle of Kerala Sadya during Onam
Ingredients :
- Wild lemon -1
- Green chillies – 4-5 ( cut in to small round pieces )
- Garlic -10-12 pods.
- Chillies powder -4-5 tsp.
- Fenugreek -1/2 tsp.(crushed to powder ).
- Asafoetida -1/2 tsp.
- Curry leaves -2 springs.
- Salt to taste.
- Mustard – 1/2 tsp.
- Gingilly oil -1-2
Method :
- Boil whole lemon in one cup of water for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Take it out of the water and cut into small cubes when it cools.Keep the water aside for gravy.
- Heat oil in Pan. Then add mustard. When it splutters add garlic and saute it for 2-3 minutes.
- Now add lemon pieces, green chillies and curry leaves. Stir for 2-3 minutes.
- Add water and bring it to boil. Now add chilli powder, asafoetida and salt. Stir well and boil for a few more minutes till gravy thickens .
- Cool down and store in a clean and dry bottle.
- You can use it right away.
- It can be kept for 2 – 3 weeks in a refrigerator.
