Vellarika (Madras Cucumber) Kichhadi.

Traditional “Onam Sadya” Curry of Kerala.

Ingredients :

  • Cucumber -2 cups (cubed ).
  • Shallots -2 ( peeled and crushed ).
  • Green chillies -2 (cut into round pieces ).
  • Ginger – !/2 inches piece ( chopped ).
  • Grated Coconut -2 tbsp.
  • Garlic flake -1.
  • Cumin seeds -a pinch.
  • Mustard seeds -1/2 tsp ( crushed ).
  • Curd – 1/2 cup.
  • Salt to taste.
  • Coconut oil -2 tsp.
  • Curry leaves – few.

Method :

  • Peel and cut cucumber into small pieces.
  • Grind coconut with little water in to smooth paste just before taken out from mixie add garlic and cumin seeds run mixie for a second .Add crushed mustard for this paste.
  • Heat oil add shallots,ginger and green chillies, and fry for 4-5 seconds ,add cucumber with 1 cup of water and cook till soft.
  • Now add salt and ground paste and cook few more minutes.
  • Take out from heat add curd and mix well.
  • Heat little oil fry curry leaves and one red chiili and add to curry.
