IDIYAPPAM ( Nulu Puttu ) with Green Peas Curry.

Ingredients

  • Rice flour – 1 1/2 cups
  • Boiling water – 11/4  – 11/2 cups
  • Grated coconut -1/2 -3/4 cup
  • Salt to taste.

Instructions

  1. Combine salt and rice flour.
  2. Add boiling water gradually and using a wooden spatula mix the dough.
  3. Add water till the dough comes together, Using your hands (be careful the dough can be very hot), knead together until you get a smooth and soft dough. The dough should not be too tight and it should not be sticky also.
  4. Cover the dough with a wet cloth.
  5.  When the dough are still warm put small portions of dough in a greased sevai maker and press it ( which has holes in it, when pressed comes out like thin noodles )onto greased idli moulds or banana leaves. Sprinkle the grated coconut on these
  6. Once the water starts boiling in the steamer, place the idli moulds and steam for 7-9 mins on medium – high flame. Keep the steamer closed for a min or two. Transfer the cooked Idiyappam to a serving plate. Serve hot with any curry .

Green Peas Curry

Ingredients :

  • Dry Green Peas – 1 cup
  • Chilli powder -1- 2 tsp.
  • Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp.
  • cinnamon – 1/2 inch piece.
  • cloves  – 4 – 5.
  • Garlic -5 -6 pods.
  • Oil – 2 tsp.
  • Salt to taste.

Method : 

  • Pressure cook green peas.
  • Crush garlic, cinnamon and cloves.
  • Heat oil in a kadai. Add garlic, cinnamon and cloves, fry for two to three minutes and add chilli and turmeric powder.
  • Add cooked green peas and salt.cook few more minutes.
  • Serve hot with Idiyappam.
