Ingredients :
- Bengal gram – 1 cup.
- Malbar yam ( Surnu in Konkani )100 gms .
- Coconut – 1.
- Red chillies – 7 – 8 ( fried in little oil ).
- Tamarind – a pebble size.
- Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp.
- Salt to taste.
For Seasoning :
- Oil – 2 tsp.
- Mustard – 1 /2 tsp.
- Cumin seeds – 1/4 tsp.
- Curry leaves – few.
Method :
- Soak chana for 8 to 10 hours in water.
- Peel yam and cut into cubes.
- Pressure cook chana and yam for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Grind grated coconut with fried red chillies,turmeric powder and tamarind into fine paste.
- Add ground paste to cooked chana along with salt,enough water and cook till gravy becomes thick.
- Fry the seasoning in oil and pour over the curry.
- Serve hot with rice.
Variation :
1 Instead of yam you can use any one of these vegetables, Tender jack , Kook (Chinese Potato ),Drum sticks, Potatoes.
2 Omit tamarind and use any one from this, Raw Mango pieces, Bimbul, Ambado (Hog plums )
