Pineapple Pachadi

Traditional side dish of keralas Onam Sadya.

Ingredients :

  • Pineapple – 1.
  • Ripe Banana ( Nendra ) – 1.
  • Black Grapes – 10.
  • Chilli powder – 3/4 tsp.
  • turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp.
  • Salt to taste.
  • Jaggery  -1/4 cup ( grated ).
  • Curd – 1/2 cup.

For grinding :

  • Grated coconut – 1 cup.
  • Cumin seeds – less than 1/4 tsp.
  • Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp ( crushed ).

For Seasoning :

  • Coconut Oil – 1 tsp.
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp.
  • Red chilli – 1-2 ( Optional ).
  • Curry leaves – few.

Method :

  • Peel and cut pineapple and banana into even size pieces.
  • Grind coconut with cumin seeds into fine paste,add crushed mustard to the paste.
  • Cook pineapple and banana in enough water with chilli powder and turmeric powder,add grapes,jaggery and salt.
  • Add ground paste and cook few more minutes.Now add whipped curds,allow it to come to boil and remove from fire immediately.
  • Fry seasoning in oil and add to the gravy.
