Kuvale ( Ash gourd ) Sasam

This dish is Prepared in temple festival and specially on Margashira Shasti day ,every Konkani household prepare this.

Ingredients:

  • Kuvale ( Winter gourd ) – 1/2 kg.
  • Grated coconut – 2 cups.
  • Red chillies (Roasted ) – 3.
  • Tamarind – a pea size.
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp.
  • Salt to taste.
  • Jaggery – a pea size.

For seasoning :

  • Oil – 1 tsp.
  •  Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp.
  •  Curry leaves few

Method :

  • Peel,discard the seeds and cut 1 inch pieces of ash gourd
  • Grind coconut,red chilli and tamarind into medium fine paste,add mustard seeds and grind for a second.
  • Cook ash gourd with enough water.
  • Add salt and jaggery boil few more minutes.
  • Now add ground masala and cook few more minutes.
  • Heat oil in small kadai add mustard seeds when it splutter add curry leaves.
  • Pour this seasoning over the curry.
  • Serve hot with rice.
