Kulitha (Horse gram ) Ramdanu

when Idly batter is directly poured over a banana leaf and steamed, the dish is called Ramdanu or Sandan.

Kulitha-Ramdanu

Ingredients :

  • Raw rice – 1 1/2 cup.
  • Urad dhal – 3/4 cup.
  • Kulithu ( Horse gram ) – 1/2 cup.
  • Salt to taste.

Method :

  • Soak urad dhal and rice seperately in water for 2  hours.
  • Grind dhal till smooth and frothy.
  • Grind rice to fine rawa consistency.
  • Mix both ground pastes together with salt.
  • Allow to ferment overnight.
  • Soak Kulithu overnight.
  • Next morning grind kulithu till smooth and frothy.
  • Mix it to the fermented batter.
  • Pour in a pan lined with banana leaves and steam till cooked.
  • Cut into pieces and serve with any chutney.
