We buy fresh peas in the pod , peel and use the peas for various recipes. What do we do with the peel??? we pay good money for it, we buy it by the weight and throw away the peel??? No No No No No…. Do not throw away anything that can be used… Guess what…it makes a great stir fry.
This recipe was taught by my mother-in-law Mrs. Sushila N Pai who got this recipe from her mother in law Mrs. Radha Pai or Bappu as we call her fondly …whoa… this is a Pai family secret recipe …will I be in trouble for letting the family secret out??? 😉
So getting back to this “making the best of the waste” recipe, The peeled peapods have a plastic-like inner membrane that has to be removed before cooking. This takes a few tries to master. Do not fret if you dont get it the first time. It is fun and addictive after you get the hang of it. Here is a step by step picture log to help you.
How To Peel podpeel :-
Pinch the ends of the podpeel and fold inwards till it snaps.
Slide the thumb to peel the membrane off slowly .
If the membrane breaks in the middle do not fret, just snap the pod where the membrane remains and slide to remove.
This is what the pod looks like, sans membrane.
This is what the membrane looks like after it is peeled (please throw this out, I dont think this could be used in anyway I know)
