Idli rice/ fried gram dal Chakkuli

Ingredients :

  • Idly rice – 2 cups.
  • Fried gram dal – 1 cup.
  • Coconut extract – from 1 cup of coconut(or use 2  tbsp coconut powder ).
  • Butter – 1 tbsp.
  • sesame seeds – 2 tsp.
  • Cumin seeds – 2 tsp.
  • salt – as required.
  • Oil – For deep frying.

Method :

  • Soak rice in water for 2 hours.
  • Strain water,add coconut extract and grind to smooth paste.
  • Powder dal and pass through a sieve.
  • Mix it with ground paste,sesame seeds, cumin seeds,butter and salt.
  • Divide the dough into 5-6 parts.
  • If necessary sprinkle water to one portion to form dough just before frying.
  • Put into greased murukku maker.
  • Squeeze and prepare small murukkus (Chakuli ) on top of a wet cloth.
  • Slip into hot oil and deep fry till crisp.
