
Micro green and wild edible plants leaves have gained popularity in recent years and is sold as healthy food in restaurants and super market . Actually our ancestors have been using them since ages . These greens and vegetables were easily available in the villages . Casia Tora is one such plant which is considered as a weed or wild plant which contains nutritional goodness and also medicinal benefits .
During monsoon , our immune system is weakened , this result in many water borne disease . The shoots or tender leaves are consumed in this season to warm up one’s constitution boost immunity and prevent and protect the body from climatic infection and diseases.

Cassia Tora acts as a liver stimulant , mild laxative and heart tonic . It also helps the body in maintaining the normal level of cholesterol .
Cassia Tora or Senna Tora is a dicot legume plant in the sub family of caesalpinioideae . It’s common names is Sickle Senna other common names are Sickle pod , Tora , Coffee pod . It is called Chagate soppu in Kannada , Tajank in Tulu and Taikilo in Konkani .

This plant appears after the first monsoon rains and continue to grow till October . The plant can measure from 30 – 90 centimetres and leaves can be up to 5 centimetres long . The roots , leaves and seeds are widely used in Ayurvedic , Unani and Chinese traditional medicine.
The memories of my childhood , take me to my mother’s kitchen where I relished this leaves in the form of stir fry , fritters or steamed spicy Idlis . We as a kids went over field side or unused grounds where these plants grew abundantly . We happily plucked the tender shoots to take home anticipating the goodies made from them .
