
Thera Panna Bajji is a Kochi GSB style dish . It is Taro leaves simple curry with few ingredients . We do not add ground masala to this . It is prepared in temple festival during ‘ Karthik Poornima ‘ and also prepared during ‘ Sradha ‘ ritual . Star fruit or Bimbili or Hog plums are added to this curry for taste and avoid itching of Taro leaves . In the absence of these fruits you can also add tamarind .

Ingredients :
1 . Thera pan ( Taro leaves ) with stem – 25 – 30 .
2 . Hog plums – 2 -3 .
Or
Star fruits – 4 -5 .
Or
Bimbili – 4 – 5 .
Or
Tamarind small marble size .
3 . Green chillies – 7 – 8 slit length wise .
4 . Grated coconut – 2 tbsps .
5 . Asafoetida powder – 1 tsp .
6 . Coconut oil – 2 tsp .
Salt to taste .
Method :
1 . Wash and clean the thera pan and roughly chop them.
2 . Remove the outer skin of the stem and cut them in 1/4 inch pieces .

3 . Crush the hog plums in mortar pestle .
4 . Pressure cook chopped taro leaves , chopped stems and hog plums with 1/2 cup of water . Take 2 whistles and switch off the flame .

5 . When pressure releases open the lid of the cooker and add cut ( lengthy ) green chillies with salt .
6 . Cook 4 – 5 minutes . Now add grated coconut and mix well . Cook another few seconds .
7 . Switch off the flame add coconut oil mix well .
8 . Serve hot with rice .
