Mutter Paneer

Most kids love any dish made with Paneer . Paneer is high in protein and calsium enriched . When I made Naan , I decided to make Mutter Paneer as side dish . Fresh green peas , tanginess of the tomatoes and creamy paneer makes this dish loved by all .

Ingredients :

1 . Paneer cubes – 2 cups ( approx – 400 gms ) .

2 . Fresh or Frozen green Peas – 1 cup .

To be fried and ground  :

3 . Onions – 2 – 3 large ( roughly chopped ) .

4 . Garlic – 8 – 10 cloves ( chopped ) .

5 . Ginger – 1 1/2 inch (chopped ) .

6 . Green chillies – 1 – 2 ( optional ) .

7 . Kashmiri red chillies – 8 – 10 .

8 . Coriander seeds – 2 tbsps .

9 . Cumin seeds – 1 tsp + 1 tsp .

10 . Saunf – 1 tsp .

11 . Cinnamon – 1 inch piece .

12 . Cloves – 3 .

13 . Cardamom – 2 – 3 .

14 . Black cardamom – 1 .

15 . Pepper corns – 4 – 8 .

16 . Cashew nuts – 1 tbsp .

17 . Poppy seeds ( khus khus ) – 2 tsp .

18 . Turmeric – 1/ 2 tsp .

19 . Tomatoes – 2 medium ( roughly chopped ) .

Salt to taste .

Coriander leaves – 2 tbsps ( chopped ) for garnishing .

Method :

1 . In a kadai , heat oil and add the cinnamon , cloves , cardamoms , pepper and fry for a minute . Then add coriander seeds , cumin seeds , saunf and fry for 2 – 3 minutes .

2 . Add the red chillies , cashew nuts and poppy seeds . After 1 – 2 minutes add onions , ginger , garlic and fry till onions turns transulant and raw smell is gone . Here while frying onions you can also add green chillies if you want to raise the spice level ( optional ) .

3 . Now add turmeric Powder and tomatoes . Fry till tomatoes turn mushy and oil starts seperating from the side .

4 . Cool the fried items and grind in the mixer to a smooth paste .

5 . In the same kadai add oil and when it heats add a teaspoon of cumin seeds . When it splutter add the ground masala and cook for 4 – 5 minutes .

6 . Add 1 – 2 cups of water and green peas and bring it to boil . Add salt and adjust according to taste .

7 . When the peas are cooked add the paneer cubes and bring to quick boil . Remove from flame .

8 . Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti .

Note : The masala for the paste should be fried on low flame .
