
Appo is sweet dish made of wheat , jaggery , and coconut or rice , coconut and jaggery . Appo served as Prasad to lord Ganesha . This recipe is easy way to prepare appo without adding coconut and made from wheat flour . The secret behind very tasty appo is right ingredients and lots of ghee .
Ingredients :
1 . Wheat flour – 1 cup .
2 . Layi ( puffed rice ) – 1 cup .
3 . Jaggery syrup – 1/4 cup .
4 . Cardamom powder – 1 tsp .
5 . Rawa ( semolina ) – 1 tbsp ( optional ) .
Salt to taste .
Ghee for frying .
How to prepare jaggery syrup : Boil jaggery with little water in a pressure cooker up to one to whistle switch off the flame . Allow it to cool and open the lid to see if the jaggery has dissolved , now add more water and strain it and boil it again till it becomes a thick honey like consistency . Let it cool and you can store this syrup in refrigerator for up to month or so .
Method :
1 . Wash and soak the layi ( puffed rice ) in water for 10 minutes and drain it .
2 . Grind the soaked layi ( puffed rice ) adding enough jaggery syrup to a smooth paste.


3 . Pour this paste in to a vessel and add wheat flour , rawa , salt and cardamom powder . If needed add little water to make a batter without any lumps and pouring consistency ( if needed use mixer grinder to mix the batter well ) .




4 . Keep this batter aside for at least 2 hours.
5 . Heat appe pan add 1/4 tsp ghee in all the moulds and heat in on low flame .
6 . Fill the batter in to each mould, fill up to 3/4 th of the mould .
7 . Cover with lid and cook on low flame till they become golden brown and when bottom portion is done .
8 . Carefully flip it with small spoon add few drops of the ghee again and alow it to cook golden brown in the other side also .
9 . Serve as Prasad .
