Rice and moong dal kichidi with jaggery

Sweet moong dal kichidi is Konkani delicacy, that is normally made during Dhanur masa . In temple and every Konkani house hold made this dish with polo (dosa ).

Ingredients :

1 . Raw rice – 1 cup .

2 . Moong dal ( moong bean split and deskinned ) – 1/2 cup .

3 . Grated coconut – 1 1/2 cups .

4. Jaggery syrup ( thick ) – 2 1/2 cups .

5. Cardamom powder – 1 tsp .

6 . Ghee – 1/2 cup ( approx ) .

Method :

1 . Dry roast the moong dal till light golden brown, wash and keep it aside .

2 . Wash and cook rice in a pressure cooker with 4 – 5 cups of water for about 3 – 4 whistles .

3 . When pressure comes down open the lid and add moong dal. Check for enough water if not add water and take 2 more whistles and switch off the heat .

4 . Now take a heavy bottom pan add dal and rice, coconut and jaggery syrup and cook in medium heat, stir in between .

5 . Add ghee little by little and cook until well combined and thick . Add cardamom powder and mix well . Once the ghee begins to separate switch off the flame .

6 . Spread it evenly on greased plate and keep it to cool and set. When it cools down and sets well cut it into desired shape and serve .
