Magge (Madras cucumber) Koddel

This is a Mangalorean Konkani side dish usually prepared  with jack fruit seeds which are usually seasonal. Instead of Jackfruit seeds we can use Chowli or Alsande bee.(Cow peas or Lobia )

Ingredients : 

  • Madras cucumber -1/2 kg (cut into big cubes)
  • Cow peas -1-2 tbsp
  • Coconut- 1/2 or approximate 1 cup (heaped )
  • Red chillies (slightly fried in little oil) -8-10
  • Tamarind -little
  • Salt to taste

For Seasoning :

  • Coconut oil -1 tbsp
  • Garlic pods -10 -12

Method:

  • Cook Cow peas in Pressure  cooker.
  • Cut Cucumber into 1 inches cubes with skin.
  • Cook  Cucumber in enough water.
  • Grind coconut ,chillies and tamarind with little water to a fine paste.
  • Add cooked cow peas, ground paste and salt to cooked cucumber and boil few more minutes.
  • Heat oil in small Pan add crushed garlic and fry till golden colour  pour this over gravy
  • Serve hot with Rice ( this usually goes well with boiled rice ).
