Sweet ripe plantains, fried in ghee is a yummy, quick and filling snack. Make it for the kids as an evening snack to fuel them before they go out and play. For this you need the Nendra variety of banana which are also known as plantains. They work the best for this as they are starchier and retain shape while frying. Kelle tallolo as they call it in Kochi Konkani is usually made during Krishna Janmashtami.
Ingredients :
- Nendra banana / plantains – 2 .
- Ghee for deep frying .
- Sugar – 2 Tsp for sprinkling .
- Cardamom powder – 1/2 Tsp .
Method :

- Quarter and cube the plantains into 1/2 inch thick pieces.
- Heat ghee in a kadai , add the pieces and fry till golden brown on a medium flame.
- Sprinkle sugar, cardamom powder and mix well while the pieces are still warm.
Notes: Serve warm as they taste crispy when warm, they turn soft and spongy when cold.
