This is Kerala’s “Onam Sadya” Curry
Ingredients :
Nendra kai ( banana/ plantain ) -1
Malabar Yam -150 gms.
Curd – 1 cup.
Black Pepper -1 tsp (crush coarsely ).
Fenugreek seeds – 1/2 tsp (dry roast and powder )
Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp.
salt to taste.
Grind together :
Coconut -1/2.
Green chillies -2-3.
Cumin seeds -Pinch.
For Seasoning :
Coconut oil -1 tbsp.
Mustard seeds -1/2 tsp.
Curry leaves – few
Dry Red chilli -1 (optional ).
Method :
- Peel and cut banana into 1/2 inches round pieces,and yam into cubes.
- Cook yam in enough water with crushed pepper, when the yam is half cooked add banana pieces with turmeric powder and cook till soft.
- Grind coconut , green chillies and cumin seeds into fine paste.
- Add salt, ground paste and cook for a few more minutes.
- Add the fenugreek powder and curd just before removing from fire.
- Fry seasoning in coconut oil and add to the gravy.
