Ingredients :

  • Raw rice – 1 cup.
  • Grated coconut – 2 cups.
  • Puff rice ( Layi in konkani ) – 1 cup.
  • Jaggery – 1 cup ( grated ).
  • Milk – 1 cup.
  •  Butter milk – 1 tbsp.
  • Salt – 1/2 tsp.
  • Cashew nuts – 7 – 8.
  • Kismiss – 1 tbsp.
  • Cardamom – 3.
  • Ghee for greasing.

Method :

  • Wash and soak rice for 2 hours.
  • Drain water and spread the soaked rice over cloth under shade. when there is no moisture,pound it to fine rawa consistency in mixie.
  • Soak Puff rice for 5 minutes.
  • Grind together drained puff rice,grated coconut with milk to a fine paste.
  • Add rice rawa, jaggery,cashew nuts,kissmis,cardamom salt and butter milk to ground paste,mix well and allow to ferment 10 to 15 hours.
  • Next day pour in greased idly container and steam till cook.
  • Serve with  butter or ghee.
